Ed Sprouse (September 20, 1923 - September 21, 2014)
Ed Sprouse was born in Lamar County, AL in 1923. He got his start in music in 1941, winning first place in a music contest held by the the Stamps-Baxter School. His first professional job was with the Smile-A-While Quartet based in Macon, Georgia. He also sang with the Harmony Boys Quartet of Montgomery, Alabama and was an original members of the Dixie Rebels in 1949.
Sprouse is best known for the years he sang tenor for the Blue Ridge Quartet (1950-1965). He also performed with the Senators and the Old Timers Quartet.
In addition to singing professionally as a gospel quartet tenor, Sprouse had a furniture business and served as a church music director. He passed away in 2014 at the age of 91.
